Peter Fray has recently moved from The Australian, where he was deputy editor, to become the head of journalism at the University of Technology, Sydney. As professor of the practice of journalism, he will be driven by the need to innovate, collaborate and ensure UTS students are fit-for-purpose in this ever-changing media landscape. Fray is the founder and editor-in-chief of the fact-checking website, PolitiFact Australia, and the former editor or editor-in-chief of The Sydney Morning HeraldThe Canberra Times and The Sunday Age — and the publisher of the SMH and The Sun-Herald. He is involved with several digital start-ups and has been accepted as a Tow-Knight Fellow at City University New York’s digital entrepreneur program in 2016. Over a 30-year career in the industry, Fray has reported on religion, politics, national affairs and agriculture, edited features, gossip, arts, opinion, obits and news and spent three years as a foreign correspondent. He lives in Sydney, produces theatre for fun and is committed to being endlessly curious.
