Dave Earley

Guardian Australia
Audience editor

Dave Earley is audience editor for Guardian Australia, a role that involves ensuring The Guardian’s quality content reaches the widest possible audience across all platforms. This is done by combining traditional news judgement with extensive use of editorial analytics to deepen engagement with readers, and keep the newsroom informed about how to best connect every piece of content with the right audience. Dave joined The Guardian in 2014 from the The Courier-Mail, where he was social media and engagement editor. Dave is building on the previous successes he’s had developing and executing digital and social media strategies, including as Digital editor at Quest Community Newspapers when it was named PANPA news destination of the year, and online news editor at Seven News Brisbane, where he helped develop and launch Australia’s first local online news destination for a commercial television station. While digital editor at Quest Community Newspapers, Dave won a ‘Rising Star’ award that sent him on a six-week study tour of US news operations and media conferences to observe best practices and new revenue streams for journalism. Dave is also a writer, speaker and commentator on news and social media.
